100 YEARS OF QUEENWOOD

100 years of sisterhood

Celebrating 100 years of existence is a time to reflect on what has gone before, and what is to come.

The world, and indeed Australia, has seen momentous changes during the past 100 years. When Queenwood was established in 1925, little did the founders know we were entering a century of incredible transformation.

From humble and simple beginnings, Queenwood has grown to become one of Sydney’s premier girls’ schools. Over the past 100 years, thousands of magnificent women have been part of Queenwood’s history, and we are rightly proud of the important role we have played in their education and development.

Now we look forward and ask ourselves the obvious question: “What will the next 100 years bring for Queenwood?”

What we know for sure is that the values of Truth, Courage and Service that have guided us for so long will see Queenwood embrace the future with the same vigour and positivity as we have our first 100 years.

A school may be made up of classrooms and buildings, but it is the people, especially the students, who define the real legacy of Queenwood.

Queenwood alumnae are leading change around the world in diverse fields such as science, arts, sport and politics. Our school creates women who influence society and serve their community in many different ways.

Across their Queenwood days, students are imbued with our school values of Truth, Courage and Service. When they take these values out to the wider world, great things happen.

For 100 years, Queenwood has been at the centre of so many connections.

Now in our Centenary year, we’re inviting all our community members to join us in celebrating and commemorating. This is a time to create and build even greater connections, and we’d love to see as many of you as possible at these special events.

Balmoral Lectures: Our Place, Our Community, Respecting Country

Aunty Julie Foster Smith, senior Kalkatunga woman and Aunty Janette Blainey with our Year 9 Songlines group will share Queenwood’s contemporary Songline Journey, while Kalkadoon artist Mary McMurtrie (Proberts) will share her experience creating the commissioned Queenwood Centenary artwork.

This is an opportunity to learn how the ancient can be honoured in contemporary times.

Centenary Music Concert

The extraordinary Centenary Music Concert will showcase, not just the exceptional music talent at the School, but a wider range of diverse experiences that contribute to making our unique Queenwood community.

Built around the theme of Walking Together, the event will be a powerful reflection of community across generations. We will highlight aspects of our school through guest presenters and audio-visual presentations; all interwoven into a concert that will feature performances from music ensembles, and whole-school items as this special school event is compulsory for every girl from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-century celebration of music, creativity, and community! It promises to be an unforgettable experience, and we look forward to sharing this with you.
